Charlotte Police Foundation

Message From CMPD Chief, Kerr Putney

Police Chief, Putney

"Support from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Foundation over the last 11 years has allowed the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) to be more innovative as a law enforcement agency. The foundation has donated three quarters of a million dollars to CMPD. This incredible display of generosity has enabled CMPD not only to integrate more state of the art crime-fighting technology into our daily operations, but it also has helped us emerge as an industry leader in the region.

CMPD recognizes the importance of the foundation’s commitment to helping our organization provide the highest level of service delivery and protection for our citizens.

Over the years, the foundation had supported and funded various CMPD initiatives such as thermal imagining devices, DNA equipment for its crime lab, mobile print scanners, major case crime scene truck, placing fire extinguishers in every police vehicle, electronic monitoring, cold case DNA crime lab, and body worn cameras.

Most recently, the foundation purchased a portable Firearms Training Simulator. The simulator allows members of the community to partake in various scenarios and thought processes our officers face daily. The hands-on scenarios also allow participants to gain a perspective on how they might react in similar situation.

As you can see, the foundation has had a tremendous impact on CMPD. We are forever grateful for their ongoing support. Our hope is that this wonderful and successful partnership will continue in the years to come."
